The Seaforth Chippy has started a fantastic local fundraising project to help local primary school pupils in Wester Ross embrace outdoor learning as part of the ‘new normal’.
Now, a percentage from every fish supper will be given to Ullapool Primary School to help furnish an outdoor polytunnel.
With schools set to return in August, teachers will be expected to operate good hygiene practice and getting kids outdoors more is expected to feature higher in educational thinking.
Seaforth Chippy General Managers Jody and Delia Keating, said: “We know first hand how hard lockdown and online learning has been for pupils, families and teachers.
“When we decided to re-open we wanted to bring some light after all the hardship and a bit of positivity. Kids have had to deal with a lot, being stuck indoors, so we are just happy to help and give a little back.”
Ullapool Primary School Head Teacher Eva Faber is grateful to the business for helping the school and hopes customers will be happy to put something back into the community whilst enjoying one of the UK’s favourite dishes.
The fundraiser has been pencilled in to last for three months.
“The offer from The Seaforth Chippy is really kind and will be much appreciated,” she said.
“Funding for developing outdoor learning is very much the way we, as a school would like to go, and I think, with COVID in mind, outdoor learning is going to be the best place for the pupils and teachers at school.
“We have a polytunnel which we hope to put up, before the summer break, and it would be great to be able to get equipment for it.”
