The Seaforth is re-opening!

The Seaforth Bar and Restaurant not only has great Seafood but a great history too. Their picturesque surroundings in the heart of Ullapool provide the perfect backdrop for delicious Scottish food. With a cosy fire and various seating areas, you’ll be very happy soaking up the atmosphere of the beautiful village of Ullapool. Overlooking the harbour and Loch, The Seaforth has been in many guises. Their position at the harbour entrance has had a major influence on its development and the result of this can also be seen in the harbour and surrounding area. The Seaforth has spent time as a fish and coal store for the steamboats that used to sail from Ullapool, a chandlery supplying the boats and harbour, and a smokehouse.

In the 60s and 70s The Seaforth was a pub and inn, and during the 80s the upstairs served as offices for the fish agents dealing with the East European "Klondyke" fishing fleet that anchored in Loch Broom.

The site on which The Seaforth now stands can be traced back to the original founding of the village. Ullapool was established in 1788 as a fishing village by the British Fisheries Society, and the first reference to this site appears on Mr MacLeod of Geanies plan of Ullapool in 1789 as a store of salt, nets and casks. The building was completed in that year at a cost of £100.

It remained largely as a store for the next 160 years as records show. In 1912 Kenneth Cameron was using it as a store/coal house and described as a block, stone and lime building, slated. A smithy was also operating out the back, in a shed of wood and corrugated iron. Attached also, was a salmon-boiling house, where the salmon was prepared before despatching south. For many years now the Seaforth has been a Restaurant, Premium Bar and Chippy which has won numerous awards including BBC Radio 4's 'Takeaway of the Year' and is a proud business member of the NC 500.

The Seaforth has recently announced their plans to renovate The Seaforth in January 2018. The Refurbishment is just one of the exciting announcements The Seaforth have planned for 2018. The Seaforth is known for their delicious Seafood specials including their famous Seafood pans. 2018 promises exciting Seafood dishes served all year round as well as their beloved traditional Scottish dishes. “Our restaurant works hard to craft beautiful dishes using Scottish produced products and is well known for its Seafood specials and of course our a range of premier beverages. We have a great variety of dishes planned for 2018.” – Head Chef Jody Keating.

The Seaforth will also be going greener. They recently had the chance to become one of Ullapool’s businesses that went “plastic straw free” in 2017. “We are of course incredibly proud to be a part of this campaign.” -Lachlan Robertson, General Manager.

This was brought about by the pupils of Sunnyside and Ullapool Primary Schools as part of their #NaeStrawAtAw campaign. “We are delighted that the children from Ullapool primary and Sunnyside Primary were able to make such a huge difference to an entire village. We will continue to support Ullapool primary and Sunnyside Primary in their campaign. Fantastic work!” – Delia Keating, Marketing Manager

As a Restaurant, Bar and Chip shop, The Seaforth will do their best efforts to move away from plastic and try find alternatives. “We are replacing all plastic takeaway knives, forks and spoons from our Chip shop with a more eco-friendly option. We are also replacing our small and large burger boxes and we have fabulous new recyclable Fish and Chips boxes.” - Lachlan Robertson, General Manager

The Seaforth believe Plastic in the seas has become a serious issue and that we can all help to reduce plastic usage, especially single-use items.

The Seaforth will be re-opening on the 1 February 2018 and will be launching their new loyalty card and fantastic Seafood Menu. The Seaforth will also be inviting all B&B owners from Ullapool and surrounding areas to an opening evening where they will be showcasing their food, beverages, live entrainment as well as their refurbishment.
